Antivirus and security

Computer security is getting more and more important, and therefore the IT-department encourages all users of NMBUs network to scan their computer for viruses and spyware at regular intervals, monthly or more often.

We recommend having only one antivirus application installed. Having more than one installed often creates more trouble than the good it does. Unfortunately, antivirus software will not help against all types of infections. There are many types of spyware and malware that antivirus software do not recognize, but there are several similar products that do.

Our recommendations:

Microsoft Security Essentials is Mocrosofts own antivirus software. The program have been tailored for Windows and can run in the background without using too many resources. Security Essentials is integrated in Windows 8.1

If you are on Windows 7 or Vista, you can download it here.

Spybot is a very popular program for hindering spyware and similar unwanted software from your computer. There is a free and a paid version. The free version works great and can be found here.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is an effective program that removes malware that has been installed on your computer. This also has a free and a paid version. The free version is just fine. You can find it here.

Remember to update all the software before you scan, that way you make sure you are safe from the latest threats.
